Certificate Programs

Wallangarra Riding & Pony Club conducts Rally lessons in accordance with the Pony Club Australia Syllabus of Instruction.  A copy can be downloaded from the Pony Club Australia website: https://ponyclubaustralia.com.au/syllabus/

Riders are encouraged to participate in the Certificate program and the Pony Club Australia Academy.  There are seven (7) proficiency certificates taking riders from the very early stages (E) to the higher levels (B).  Certificate Manuals can be purchased from Pony Club Australia at: info@ponyclubaustralia.com.au.  Riders are encouraged to bring their Certificate Manuals to Theory Lessons at Rallies.

Pony Club Academy supports the Certificate program with online content and activities.  It is interactive using digital media resources YouTube videos, audio clips, online games, interactive presentations, quizzes and certificate testing/exams for the theory component.  Riding members can join the Pony Club Academy and extend their learning journey at home.

Pony Club Certificates are recognised internationally.  Certificate levels also form a prerequisite for riders wishing to represent their State, National and International competitions.

WACE endorsed Certificate programs are for the C Certificate up to the A Certificate.

Horse Management - The Rider's Tool Kit

The on the ground 'unmounted' components of our Rallies focuses on these main sections of learning:

  • The Rider's Tool Kit - horse ethology, behaviour and training, flight response, pressure-release
  • On the Ground - foundation responses on the ground and in-hand dressage tests for horse handling
  • Horse Management - grooming, parts of the bridle/saddle, what a pony eats and drinks, parts of the horse, health, ailments and injuries, care of feet/shoeing

Lessons at Rallies will focus on a specific component of learning.

Certificate Examinations

Qualified NCAS Pony Club Coaches at Wallangarra Riding & Pony Club are able to assess Certificates E, D and D*.

C Certificate requires the Chief Instructor to assess and sign off that the riders are competent to be presented at a formal Examination.  The State Coaching Panel of Pony Club WA provides a list of qualified Examiners that the Chief Instructor can contact to arrange a suitable examination day.  Riders are required to present in Formal Competition Uniform and their mounts should be plaited.

C* / K / B Certificates all require the riders to maintain workbooks/journals and voluntary service recognition.  Riders are independently assessed by external examiners to be competent to move forward to examination.  The Chief Instructor will provide information at Club of programs and education sessions for riders working toward these Certificates.  Riders are required to present in Formal Competition Uniform and their mounts should be plaited.
